A LAME DUCK CHAIRMAN

The Chairman MCC Bruce Carnegie-Brown brings a new meaning to the word “Resignation” by making the term negotiable. Having been indicted by the MCC Disciplinary Committee and been awarded a Suspended Sentence for making repugnant personal remarks at an AGM, he decided that the Committee refusal to accept his resignation was to prove too good to be true! A man of honour and integrity would have headed for the Exit via the Grace Gates in a nanosecond. However, the Indictment of a Suspended Sentence proved to be merely a flimsey feather to be blown away in favour of the magnetic attractions endowed upon the Club Chairman of the trappings of office, self-aggrandisement, free entertainment and rubbing shoulders with Royalty.

With a precedent such as this, an Ordinary Member MCC must be scratching his head in disbelief if convicted of a misdemeanor and given a 2 year suspension for the use of “offensive or inappropriate behaviour  or language (P53 Regulations), barring the Member from entering Lord’s Cricket Ground! Here is a Club Chairman who has a record of misbehaviour and yet still enjoys unfettered rights and privileges!

Ordinary MCC Members must wish:-

“Who, if he rise to station or command, rises by open means  and there will stand on honourable terms or else retire” (Wordsworth).

It is not fit that you should sit here any longer. You have sat here too long for any good you have been doing lately … In the name of God go” (Oliver Cromwell)
