ROYAL CHARTER

The Grant of our Royal Charter on 1 July 2013 marked a new era in the history of MCC. To the Club Executive it is as though nothing  has happened! This important and prestigious award brought a new meaning to MCC affairs as a Body Corporate and with it the removal of individual Member liability in the event of a financial catastrophe. It also brought other potential benefits and advantages with a need to restructure the governance of MCC. It is apparent from the structural changes that have taken place since, the MCC Committee remains completely unaware of the necessary changes demanded by the incorporation of the Club. It seems to consider the event being purely associated with an appellate function.

It has taken nearly a decade since the Grant of our Royal Charter, to record Lord’s Cricket Ground at the Land Registry. However, the vitally important status of Lord’s Cricket Ground and the function of the Ground’s Trustees remain in doubt, accompanied by an uncertain future and the possible loss of ownership of our iconic asset. To guarantee the future of Lord’s, the MCC needs to create a Subsidiary in accordance with Royal Charter Article 4(c).
